September is here. In a familiar seasonal change, winter will slowly and gently pass in order to herald spring.
God created the four seasons and, in many ways, we see the signature of the same artist in our lives. Our lives will change, and we will enter and exit many seasons, but the Son remains constant, yesterday, today and forever.
Ecclesiastes said that to everything there is a season. Every aspect of our lives is as to a season. And there is a purpose for the process. There is a reason for the season.
There are seasons you didn’t want to go through. But through those seasons you learned some things. These are quite common experiences in the long-term life of discipleship, triggered by a range of different human responses to grief, loss, tragedy, hurt, burnout, disillusionment, and so on.
But the deepest valleys of human experience contain the necessary seeds of healing, deliverance, and maturation for new stages of life and discipleship. That assurance should give you a spring to your step.
May God guide your comings and goings:
May the Father fill you with his Spirit, and make you fruitful;
May Jesus Christ be your companion on life’s journey,
and bring you encouragement;
And may the Holy Spirit bring you help and healing at each point of need. May God give you joy and strength in all the seasons of the soul, Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
