Remember back to a time when you first became aware that somebody you liked actually loved you… What did you feel?… What did you think?… And how did you respond?…

Let me guess… You went weak at the knees… your brain flooded with dopamine… and you were ready to sell your soul to them!

Jesus said that no one can come to believe in Him unless God the Father “draws them” (Jn 6:44). This means that God works in our lives by the power of the Holy Spirit to help us see our need of Jesus’ saving grace, know that His grace is definitely given to us, and to believe it in our day-to-day lives. Jesus’ grace is another word for His love.

Jesus doesn’t say that the Father “drives” us to Jesus, but “draws” us. They are two very different things. To “drive” is to force (use a “stick”), to “draw” is to attract (use a “carrot”). If we are driven to Jesus by emotional pressure or fear, that won’t be a relationship that will last. Only if we are drawn to Him by the attractiveness of His love for us will we have a relationship with Him that is true, deep, joyous and lasting.

Why do we believe in Jesus and worship Him? If it is not because we are overwhelmed by the sheer, breathtaking beauty of His love for us, it needs to be! Contemplate the promises of His love in the Bible until it does.

Grace and cheers, Jonathan.
